Research & Track Record

Four years of shipping zero-knowledge at consumer scale.

ZKPuzzle is the second-largest zero-knowledge application by volume, after Worldcoin. We built the first ZK privacy mobile app, the first ZK provable multiparty gaming, and the first ZK arcade combining privacy and verifiability — and the team behind it (formerly Puzzle, formerly Nucleo) has been in the ZK trenches since 2022.

This page is the primary reference for what we’ve shipped, who we’ve worked with, and where it’s all documented publicly.

Firsts

Five things we shipped first.

Each claim below has a corresponding conference talk, launch post, or partner announcement in public record. The links are further down.

  1. 01

    First ZK privacy multiparty application

    Q4 2022 – Q1 2023

Private multisig and B2B toolkit. Shipped during the Nucleo era after the $4M seed round led by Bain Capital Crypto and 6th Man Ventures. First customers included working partners like OFAC, Sotheby's, and Wintermute on regulatory-grade privacy.

  2. 02

    First ZK privacy mobile app

    Q4 2023

The Puzzle Wallet on iOS with Aleo account abstraction — the first mobile app to put zero-knowledge privacy primitives in a real user's hands without requiring a desktop or a browser extension. Covered at ZK Summit 10 and the Fenbushi research workshop at Devconnect.

  3. 03

    First ZK provable multiparty gaming

    Q4 2023 – Q1 2024

Multiplayer games where the rules, the randomness, and the outcomes are all verifiable with a zero-knowledge proof — not trusted to a server. Launched at Devconnect with ZK Hack and earned Puzzle the win at Aleo's SnarkTank competition in Q4 2023.

  4. 04

First ZK arcade combining privacy and verifiability

    Q1 2024 (announced) – Q3 2024 (mainnet)

Announced at ETH Denver 2024 as Puzzle Arcade. Shipped as part of the Aleo mainnet launch in Q3 2024. At the same moment: the first time quests, points, and Shopify shop integrations ran on a production ZK network. First shops: Krewe, Cajun Power, Motier.

  5. 05

Highest-volume ZK application, #2 after Worldcoin

    Q3 2024 – ongoing

Following the Aleo mainnet launch, Puzzle Arcade became the leading ZK application by user volume — second only to Worldcoin. Crossed 600,000 users in Q2 2025. The Coinbase × Aleo × Puzzle partnership in Q1 2025 cemented the category position.

Partnerships

Who we’ve built with.

Coinbase

The Coinbase × Aleo × Puzzle partnership went live in Q1 2025, integrating Puzzle into Coinbase's quests surface. Coinbase has since sunset its quests product; the integration video remains as the primary public record.

Aztec

Partnered with Aztec during the Nucleo era to build the first ZK privacy multiparty application. By the time Aztec announced the sunset of Aztec Connect (its L2 product) on March 13, 2023, Nucleo had over $1M in TVL across 20+ on-chain orgs running on the stack — including MakerDAO and Consensys as private treasury customers. Because the team had been actively de-risking platform exposure since Q4 2022 (investigating Aleo, Espresso, Anoma/Namada, Penumbra, and Nocturne), the transition to Aleo was a planned acceleration, not a scramble. Continued collaboration with Aztec v3 during the 404DAO accelerator in Q3 2023.

Every major product shipment, partnership, and research publication — in chronological order. Citations link out to primary sources.

  1. Nov 2022

Nucleo announces $4M seed round led by Bain Capital Crypto and 6th Man Ventures.

  2. Dec 2022

ConstitutionDAO2 launch. Nucleo provides the privacy infrastructure for the revived bid to buy a copy of the US Constitution. 15% of donations flow through the private rails.

  3. Mar 2023

ETH Denver talk lays out the full Nucleo architecture: private multisigs, private/public cross-chain, audit views and audit keys, and the first assessment of what holds ZK adoption back at consumer scale.

  4. Q1–Q2 2023

Spring dev program. 4 interns build 4 production-quality games on the Nucleo/Aleo stack — first proof points for the dev-tooling thesis.

  5. Mar 13, 2023

Aztec announces the sunset of Aztec Connect (its L2 product). Nucleo had been investigating Aleo, Espresso, Anoma/Namada, Penumbra, and Nocturne since Q4 2022 — and prototyping ZK multiparty games as a distribution workaround for on-chain org customers being shadow-banned on social. The transition was already in motion.

  6. Summer 2023

404DAO Accelerator with Aleo and Aztec. 200 devs signed up; 50+ made it through bootcamp; 8 teams formed; 4 shipped production-quality apps on Aleo using the Puzzle stack — including arcane.finance, which is still live today.

The bridge from "consumer app" to Puzzle Capital starts here.

FAQ

Questions we get asked a lot.

What is ZKPuzzle?
ZKPuzzle is a consumer rewards app where shops pay verified humans to play daily games. Giveaways, gift cards, and codes are distributed on zero-knowledge rails that prove fairness and privacy without revealing who won or who played. The company operates three products: the ZKPuzzle app (consumer), ZKPuzzle for Business (shop-side), and ZKPuzzle Capital (institutional).
Is ZKPuzzle the same company as Puzzle or Nucleo?
Yes. ZKPuzzle is the 2026 rebrand of Puzzle, which was itself the 2023 rebrand of Nucleo. Same team, same cap table, same four-year track record — new name chosen to reflect the company's position as the leading zero-knowledge application at consumer scale.
Is ZKPuzzle a crypto app?
ZKPuzzle uses zero-knowledge cryptography and stablecoin rails to deliver verifiably fair giveaways and real USD rewards. For users, the experience is a consumer games app — download, play, earn. For shops and capital partners, the ZK infrastructure is what makes the economics work: no ad fraud, no bots, no leakage.
How big is ZKPuzzle?
By the end of Q2 2025, the Puzzle Arcade had crossed 600,000 users. Conservative published figures account for sybil activity from early cohorts (before stricter proof-of-humanhood was deployed in Q2 2025) and put the verified-human user count above 300,000. ZKPuzzle is the second-largest zero-knowledge application by volume, after Worldcoin. ZKPuzzle Capital, the institutional arm, has expanded to $40M in assets under management.
Who backs ZKPuzzle?
Seed round ($4M, Nov 2022) led by Bain Capital Crypto and 6th Man Ventures. Long-standing technical partnerships with Aleo (since 2022) and Aztec (Nucleo era). The Coinbase × Aleo × Puzzle integration went live in Q1 2025.
